Looking For Johnny - The Legend of Johnny Thunders

Available October 14th via Digital Formats / DVD and Soundtrack on CD and Limited Edition Red Vinyl (2 LP)

A documentary on the life of the late New York Dolls and Heartbreakers guitarist

Chip Baker Films in association with Jungle Records and MVD Entertainment Group presents a Danny Garcia film.

Johnny Thunders was the legendary hard-living rock'n'roll guitarist who inspired glam-metal, punk and the music scene in general. Looking For Johnny is a 90-minute film that documents Thunders' career from his beginnings to his tragic death in 1991.

When Johnny Thunders died in New Orleans on April 23rd 1991, he left behind a mystery. Though MTV and international broadsheets reported the guitarist's demise, for many in the mainstream, Thunders was perceived as an enigmatic outlaw. He was adored by a legion of devotees and cited as an influence by at least three successive generations of musicians. Thunders refused to play the corporate game and was both elevated and damned for it.

Looking for Johnny is the creation of the documentary maker, Danny Garcia (The Rise & Fall of The Clash). The young Spanish filmmaker was seized by a question that wouldn't let go - "just who was Johnny Thunders?" He spent 18 months travelling across the USA and Europe, filming interviews with fifty of the people who were closest to Johnny, building a compelling narrative drawn from first hand testimonies.

The film examines Johnny Thunders' career from the early 70's as a founding member of the influential New York Dolls, the birth of the punk scene with The Heartbreakers in both New York City and London, and later incarnations including Gang War and The Oddballs. It also explores Johnny's unique musical style, his personal battle with drugs and theories on the circumstances of his death in a New Orleans hotel in 1991 at age 38.

Interviewees include Sylvain Sylvain, Lenny Kaye, Walter Lure, Billy Rath, Bob Gruen, Terry Chimes, Alan Vega, Peter Perrett, Sami Yaffa, three of his late managers (Marty Thau, Leee Black Childers and Malcolm McLaren), and many others.

The film includes forty songs (including Born To Lose and You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory) and historic film of Johnny with live performances from all periods, including unseen New York Dolls and Heartbreakers footage and photos. Cult filmmakers Bob Gruen, Don Letts, Patrick Grandperret, Rachael Amadeo and others contribute classic archive footage, helping illustrate the charisma, chaos and heartbreak inherent to the guitarist.

Premiere showings took place in May and June 2014 across USA and Europe, including New York City, London, Los Angeles, Chicago, Stockholm, New Orleans, Dallas, Toronto, Boston, Washington DC, Gloucester MA, San Francisco, Madrid, Barcelona and elsewhere, with more events to follow.

New Music From A Tower Of Crows

A Tower Of Crows are a Coventry based band that started in 2013, with just three members, Jay Hughes, Wayne Turner and Lea Cross. Then in November and December 2013 Sam Clay and Steve Hands joined the club and then everything for them just took off.

After their first gig at the Dog in Coventry they got invited to play the Gods of Rock competition and after winning their heat and then winning the final on their third gig in front of a packed crowd, wowing the judges from TBFM & Kerrang they arrive where they are today.

Just three month since their first gig signed to TBFM Records and supporting some fantastic bands and supporting Balls Deep during their recent tour.

They as a band are still unsure of what they sound like though they have been likened to Sabbath, Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Clutch etc so it looks like they have a stoner feel with maybe a hint of doom.

As for their influences, well there are just far too many to mention but here are just a few that at least one of them at some point has been influenced by: Black Sabbath, Pantera, Guns’n’ Roses, Tool, Faith No More, Down, Led Zeppelin, Black Label Society, Deftones and Pearl Jam,the list goes on.

Band Members:

Sam Clay – Vocals
Jay Hughes – Guitar
Steve Hands – Guitar
Lea Cross – Bass
Wayne Turner – Drums

They now release their first ever single and compliment that with a video release of their very addictive song 'Livewire'. Johnny Doom likened the band to American stoner rock band Kyuss when he featured the new track on Planet Rock recently and Jon Seymour of TBFM Radio said “This track is like a bulldozer, it moves along at a slow and steady pace, and will just about roll over anything in it’s path.” The track is available free from the band's website.

Shadow Windhawk and the Morticians Crowd Sourcing Campaign

Greetings Boils and Ghouls,

This is Shadow Windhawk, with an important message for all of our loyal Morticians' Assistants!

This marks the beginning of a new chapter for Shadow Windhawk and the Morticians - we launched our first ever crowd sourcing campaign via IndieGoGo, which you can check out and contribute to, anytime during the next 60 days, right here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/swatm-casket-spray-on-vinyl-and-new-music-video/. On October 4th, the project closes. With this ambitious new campaign, we hope to raise at least $7,500 to accomplish some major goals:

One: We want to press our debut album, "Casket Spray" to 12" Limited Edition Vinyl in eye-catching, translucent "Candy Corn Yellow". This is an extremely expensive business venture for a new band and we simply cannot afford to do this without the demand and support of our fans and friends. This release will be strictly limited to 200 pieces worldwide. It is extremely likely to sell out during this campaign.

Two: We want to hire the legendary 90's "Goosebumps" illustrator, Tim Jacobus, to create a brand-new, 100% original hand-painted cover for the Casket Spray vinyl, in full color. The painting will be created in the same style that helped to make "Goosebumps" the single best-selling children's book series in the entire world. Tim is a true professional, and as such he does not work for cheap. A significant portion of the funds for this project will be allocated to pay him for his time and hard work. He has already agreed to create the album art for this project, so all we need are the funds to make it happen!

Three: We want to fund a brand-new, bad ass music video for our latest single, "The Never Dead". We have an amazing local team on board from N.I.C.E Productions who are ready to make this video happen. It will be inspired by Phantasm...so expect dead things and plenty of GORE!!

Four: We want to tour in the US and around the world (and you can bet your asses we're bringing our friends with us). All funds remaining from this campaign after the cover artwork is paid for and vinyl + perks are created/shipped out, will go straight into purchasing a reliable touring van for SWATM to begin touring the United States. We will also pool any extra resources into a fund for SWATM to tour overseas in Europe.

Regardless of the result of this campaign, we are also working on writing the next SWATM album as I type this and you can be sure it will be an epic sophomore album. That will be coming next year, but for now...it is all or nothing with pressing the Casket Spray vinyl and shooting the new Never Dead video. If we don't make at least the minimum goal on this campaign, we won't see a dime and the vinyl and video will be placed on the back burner, as this is a *Fixed Funding* Campaign. You decide what happens next, loyal assistants...we believe in you and now we ask you all to believe in us.

The future of Shadow Windhawk and the Morticians is now in your hands. If you cannot support us financially, that is totally OK. You can support this campaign simply by making some noise for us! Share the SWATM IndieGoGo link however and where ever you possibly can over the next two months! Help us make this thing go viral...the more support we have, the better the end results of this project will be. We love you all and cannot ever adequately express our sincere gratitude for all the kindness and support you guys have shown us in the short time we have been a band. We love the horrorpunk scene and hope to remain a part of this new wave of horrorpunk for a very long time. Together, we can make all of these goals a reality and more.

We hope to see you on the road soon, and look forward to pressing this album to vinyl!!

Love Like Blood,

Shadow Windhawk

CALICO the band ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF DEBUT “RANCHO CALIFORNIA”

http://calicotheband.com/

CALICO the band Has Been Featured on the ABC hit TV show Nashville & NBC’s The Night Shift

Album Release Party Set for September 5th at Hotel Café in Los Angeles

The melodically-hypnotic country trio from the San Fernando Valley, CALICO the band, who not only shook the stage at this year’s Stagecoach Festival and whose music has been featured on the smash ABC TV show, Nashville as well as NBC’s The Night Shift, proudly announce the release of their debut album, RANCHO CALIFORNIA on Tuesday, September 2nd via their own label, California Country Records.

CALICO stands for California Country – a musical genre haunted by Western ghosts of the past, but gentle with modern spirits too. It’s about timeless roots music; it’s about voices singing in harmony. Like the expansive spirit of Laurel Canyon that spawned so many famous bands and artists, now comes this new spirit, rooted in the vast valleys and canyons of L.A. The gals will be playing an LA Record Release party on September 5th at Hotel Cafe with Cajun Cowboy Rod Melancon and Shooter Jennings, with more live dates to be announced shortly on their website.

Formed in 2012, CALICO the band (Kirsten Proffit, Manda Mosher and Aubrey Richmond) blends their three part harmonies and classic old country influences against the backdrop of acoustic guitar, mandolin, resonator, fiddle and electrics, to create a new and unique sound in California Country. “We’re here to tell people that Americana music is very much alive,” said Kirsten, “and California is a bountiful source for this style. We love to carry on the traditions of country, seen through a vibrant, new lens.”

Like Crosby, Stills & Nash, Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles, CALICO the band extends that California Country tradition both in terms of their L.A. roots and being a band of songwriters. “When you have a band of songwriters,” said Manda, “and everybody can lead on their own, and have that commanding lead voice, it is powerful.  That is who we are.”

Command of voice and lyric is evident in RANCHO CALIFORNIA’s top tracks. “High Road”, featuring a blistering, thematic guitar lick by Mosher, has become a theme song for CALICO the band.  Based on a fictional, highly ethical character; this song is about the ‘good guys’ vs outlaws. “Fools Gold” digs deep into the friendships and sacrifices made in the life of a professional touring musician. The lyric "Something in my eyes, as I look up at the Marquee" touches on the bittersweet awareness that as one realizes their dreams, they also leave behind other possibilities. The three-part harmonies and the lighthearted hook ("ba ba ba ba") uniquely contrast with this ode to the musical lifestyle. Then there’s "Dead Reckoning", a mythological tale of sirens, sailing, and troubled waters, with keyboards and production by Rami Jaffee (The Wallflowers, Foo Fighters, Pete Yorn, Pearl Jam). “Runaway Cowgirl” is a story of love in Bakersfield, CA where an interstate trucker finds a lovely, lonely girl looking to get out of town. The track is loaded with beautiful three-part harmonies over the chorus and the band flawlessly trades off sections of lead vocals and harmonizes around each other’s leads. The line "…pull the moon straight down”, inspired by the classic Jimmy Stewart/Donna Reed scene in "It's a Wonderful Life", makes “Runaway Cowgirl” a definitive CALICO signature song.

CALICO the band is:

Kirsten Proffit, an award-winning songwriter whose songs have been heard in countless movies and TV shows, including “Friday Night Lights,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “Smallville, “ “Party of Five” and Jiminy Glick in Lalawood. Her critically-acclaimed solo album, Lucky Girl, generated two singles, both of which garnered much airplay, “Something I Can't Be” and “Redemption Day.”

Manda Mosher won the 2005 Female Singer/Songwriter of The Year and 2010 National Touring Artist of The Year at the Los Angeles Music Awards. Her album Everything You Need, and the EP follow-up City of Clowns, won her rave reviews and a legion of fans around this country.

Aubrey Richmond is a celebrated and award-winning violinist/fiddler as well as a gifted singer-songwriter. She’s performed and recorded with a vast array of artists of every genre, from working with Shooter Jennings to opening for Nashville legends Martina McBride & Tim McGraw, renowned rock band Alice in Chains and acclaimed songwriter JD Souther. Her playing can be heard in many TV shows, commercials and movies, including My One and Only, “Sons of Anarchy,” “90210”, “True Blood,” “Devil’s Ride” and “Togetherness.”

Check out the video for “Never Really Gone” (song featured in Night Shift): http://youtu.be/FXicg0mZZcw

This is one great album folks, highly recommended and seriously suggest you do yourselves a favour and get it when it becomes available.
