Nocona’s roots are in Texas – songwriter, lead guitarist, and singer Chris Isom’s family are 6th generation Texans – but the band’s sun and stars rise over California. Nocona is about energy, a rock band with history. They draw their roots in Country, Folk, Punk and Rock. They take the psychedelia of the 13th Floor Elevators and mash it up with the Bakersfield sound—Roky and Buck; Love and the Burrito Brothers.
Long Gone Song is the band’s second studio release and was produced / recorded by both Chris Isom and Kevin Jarvis (Grant Lee Buffalo, Steve Wynn) at Jarvis’ Sonic Boom Room studio in Venice, CA. The album features guest appearances by pedal and lap steel legend, Greg Leisz (Bill Frisell, K.D. Lang, Joni Mitchell) as well as stalwart L.A. session musician Carl Byron (Anne McCue, Michelle Shocked, Jim Lauderdale) on B3 and electric piano. Long Gone Song follows up on Nocona’s 2013’s self-titled debut Nocona, which was released digitally with the 7 inch vinyl single Brimstone. Along with having songs from Nocona appear in the network series Bones (Fox) and Criminal Minds (CBS), the band has appeared at the major U.S. festivals Bonnaroo, Outside Lands and Stagecoach.
“Nocona, an L.A.-based roots band, just released Long Gone Song and I am quite impressed. The band is tight, the songs the best Chris Isom has yet written, and the production loose but outstanding.”—Bob Segarini music blog
"If you are looking for a musical journey, Nocona's sophomore record Long Gone Song will do that and more. From the Texas country sounding pedal steel to the punk-rock infused guitar riffs, the sounds on this record are unexpectedly perfect together"--Red Dirt Reporter, Oklahoma
“This may be rock but this is rock with roots that go all the way to China, as we used to say in the olden days…each song seems to have its quirk, a specific Isom touch, be it a slightly off-kilter chord progression or vocal arrangement or even just a roots-deep approach.”—Frank Gutch Jr. for No Depression
"If Time can be seen a fiction invented so people can feel as though what they have achieved is to be celebrated or at least left with a satisfying taste in the bones, then Long Gone Song digs deep into the marrow and leads the rebellion against the static and the controlled"--Liverpool Sound and Vision
“Does Buddy Cage know about this?…Wild stuff that doesn't follow lines you've come to expect, just listening closely to the lyrics will flip you out. Outsider stuff that really hit's the mark and is sure to be celebrated by disenfranchised everywhere.”—Midwest Record
“Along with their knack for creating songs that musically stand up to any American act out there these days, their lyrics are thought provoking, often intense stories that can be darkly humorous at times.”—Music Morsels
OUTSIDE LANDS PRAISE:
“Why Outside Lands booked Nocona in the dreaded “first show of the day” spot is beyond us. The honky tonkin’ Americana rock band was solid, charismatic and well deserving of a better time slot. Husband-and-wife team Chris and Adrienne Isom held down the fort with the kind of twangy guitar and vocals you usually only find on the beer-soaked stage of Tootsie’s in Nashville…we’re sold.”-BOXX MAGAZINE
“Noon may have seemed like a pretty ambitious tee time following long Friday night sets by Kanye and Arctic Monkeys, but Mexicali blues band Nocona was up to the task and then some. “—Henry Hauser
“Nocona is one of the most promising frontrunners of the Americana revival scene as of late.” – Moxipop
“These cats rock some alt country sounds like nobody’s business. Look out, Mumford, there’s a new band in town! Hot pickin’ on a variety of instruments and styles compliment lyrics from ballads to rockin country blues, and I swear I hear a certain Mid-Western punk sound in there, too.” –MTM (Mid Tennessee Music)
This is one fantastic album, all killer no filler, do yourselves a huge favour, stream and then purchase, you will not be disappointed!!
