KIP BOARDMAN TO RELEASE "BOARDMAN" ON STEEL DERRICK MUSIC

http://www.kipboardman.com/

Kip Boardman to release "Boardman on Steel Derrick Music.

Produced by Nelson Bragg, Percussionist/Vocalist for Brian Wilson.

BOARDMAN was Recorded Live In The Studio by Rob Campanella.

The self-titled, Boardman is Kip Boardman's fourth studio album, and a first for Nelson Bragg's Steel Derrick Music.  A longtime member of the Los Angeles music scene, and a sought after session player, Boardman has assembled an envious roster of studio and touring music veterans.  Manning lead vocals and keys, Boardman once again has collaborated with Ray LaMontagne band member Eric Heywood on pedal steel and guitar, on bass is Rob Douglas (Nick Waterhouse, Apex Manor), on drums, Steve Mugalian (Dave Alvin) and B-bending master, Dave Gleason on guitar.

While Boardman is more rocking than his last effort, the halcyonic, The Long Weight, it still retains the signatures of Kip Boardman's music—wry sense of humor, a gift for melody and lyrics, which are sung in his reed-like tenor.  Boardman's music is hard to pin into one genre of music.  You will hear a hybrid of 70's AM rock, rootsy sounding pop and L.A. country rock.  Or as Boardman, puts it, "The music I play strives for melody that gently rubs on chordal movement so elegant no one even notices…"

On this live-in-studio session recorded in the old time style of Sun Studio, Boardman kicks off with two re-recorded songs: "Running Right" from The Long Weight and "Truth And The Idiot" from the 2006 release, Hello I Must Be…which Boardman says, "…was always meant to sound more like this version."  "Where Does the Night Go" is an elegant tune that features a mysterious chord shift in the main verse riff.   "Holding The Bag" features some lovely lead trade-offs between Gleason and Heywood while "I’ve Got Time For You" is a peppy number that was written and arranged on the spot.  "Oh The Ache" features a Wurly pedal throughout the song and is the song Boardman declares his personal favorite, "Syd Barrettish work from Gleason and stratospheric pedal steel from Heywood over a krautrock denouement with psychedelic engineering from Rob Campanella."

Originally from Marblehead, MA, Kip Boardman was drawn to the warm California sun and made his home in Los Angeles.  He quickly became a stalwart member of the local L.A. roots rock royalty, playing alongside Randy Weeks, Mike Stinson, Tony Gilkyson and Ramsay Midwood.  His first solo effort was the country, folk and pop-tinged, Upon The Stars in 2003, which garnered playlist status on L.A.'s KCRW that year.

Boardman will have an April 28th release on vinyl and digital only.

"His songs bear a resonant late 70's 'LA Country rock' feel that fits comfortably with his bright alto vocals…(Boardman) mines the rich musical landscapes of a distinctly American songbook reminiscent of Harry Nilsson, Jimmy Webb and Allen Toussaint." — No Depression

"In 2013 I saw Kip Boardman and his great band blow the doors off of a dive on the Westside of L.A. with only 15 people watching.  I asked Kip if he could replicate that set in a studio with this band.  He did, lead vocals included.  This record is what I heard on that amazing night." — Nelson Bragg

About Nelson Bragg:  Nelson Bragg has been Brian Wilson's percussionist/vocalist since 2003. He also toured with The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Celebration, summer 2012. A veteran on the L.A. pop scene, Bragg has played/recorded with L.A. bands Stew and The Negro Problem, Seth Swirsky (The Red Button), The Quarter After, The Mockers, Wrecking Crew members Hal Blaine, Don Randi and Jerry Cole, and produced and toured Europe with Anny Celsi among countless others. He also enjoyed a spot with the The Narada Michael Walden Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and San Francisco's Davis Hall backing up Sting, Billy Joel and James Taylor among many others.

Boardman is the first record to be released from Bragg's new studio and record label, Steel Derrick Music.

Howdy folks!

Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of The Don Darlings. I am the Reverend (otherwise known as D.L. Collum) and I am the singer. Although I have lived in Sweden for an unspecified amount of time, I was born and raised in Texas. We originally formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2007 as a country-punk-folk band and boots have strayed down strange paths since then.

We will soon finish the next step on our musical journey and want you to join us! We would like to ask for your help to get this music out to you and others like you who enjoy good music with heart and soul. We don’t make music to get rich, we do it to make people feel something strong. Now, a little introduction...

The Don Darlings - "If You Can’t Be Good" (from the latest album), see the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yt1zPcPqjmo&feature=youtu.be

Who is/was Don Darling?

About ten years ago, I was driving through the Texas Hill Country on my way from Austin out into the wild. By the side of the highway, stood a large shed that had "Snake Pit" painted in large letters. My curiosity could not be contained and I pulled into the driveway. For a brief moment, I thought I had been transported to an alternate universe based on "From Dusk till Dawn" when an angry dog approached the car.

Then a man of at least 80 years came out with his cane. He proudly showed me the "Snake Pit" and introduced the names, as well as temperaments, of the five rattlers of various sizes. With a gleaming light in his eye, he explained that he enjoyed educating passers-by on the beauty of Texas wildlife. He then presented me with his card and said any contributions would be kindly appreciated. If ever there was an interesting character on this earth, it was certainly this stately old gentleman named Don Darling.

I never thought I could sing but couldn't help but sing along to every word of "American Recordings"by Johnny Cash. One day a few years after meeting Mr. Darling, some like-minded Scandinavian friends of mine were kind enough to take me on a musical adventure where Gothic Southern Americana meets Scandinavian Extraordinariness.

Where we were and where we are

After playing extensively in Sweden and Europe, we have released three recordings (Two LPs/CDs and one EP, all available on iTunes, Spotify and other sites). We no longer consider ourselves a country-punk-folk band but those roots still permeate our live shows. Reviews of our live shows and recordings have compared us to a strange mixed drink of Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen with a bit of Mark Lanegan on the side. If you’re wonderin' what kind of head we inhabit, that would describe it pretty well.

Now we are ready to release a new limited edition colored vinyl single along with planning a new European tour and want you to be part of it!

How can you be part of it?

You can make this happen by contributing to our project and get a copy of the single, a t-shirt, previous recordings, a show at your favorite venue and other cool stuff! Check out the list of perks and help us make it happen!

If you can’t contribute with funds but want to help, just send it on to friends and family. If nothing else, we hope you get to hear our music, see you out on the road and give you a great night of good music. Nice to meet y’all.

All the best and see or hear ya!

SINGER SONGWRITER RYAN DAVIDSON TO RELEASE HIS NEW FULL-LENGTH ALBUM "A WICK BURNING HIGH" ON APRIL 7

SINGER SONGWRITER RYAN DAVIDSON TO RELEASE HIS NEW FULL-LENGTH ALBUM A WICK BURNING HIGH ON APRIL 7

SPRING DATES ANNOUNCED WITH DARIUS KOSKI OF THE SWINGIN' UTTERS

Everyone has a story. You can look into people’s eyes and get a glimpse of where they have been, where they are, and where they even might be going. Singer songwriter Ryan Davidson catalogs those human tales on his new self-released, full-length album, A Wick Burning High out digitally on April 7.

Effortlessly blending genres like folk with alternative, a bit of Irish, with just the right amount of punk.  The album includes the organic barroom chant of “Whiskey With My Friends,” which Ryan calls, “an anthem to remember the good times with the ones you love.” At the same time, his vivid lyricism takes the spotlight over a delicate acoustic strum on the first single “St. Louis” and “Kay” serves as a tribute to a triumphant friend battling a life-threatening illness with her head held high, while “Silver Dagger” serves as Ryan’s take on a classic performed by everyone from Bob Dylan and Dolly Parton to Joan Baez and Gillian Welch. “It’s an old folk song so many artists have twisted over the years,” he says. “I wanted to do my own version but rewrite the story.”

A WICK BURNING HIGH is filled with songs and stories that will pull at your heart strings and not leave your head.  But it all stems from Ryan’s personal story, a t 13-years-old, the Chico, California native was riding his bike when a semi-truck suddenly cut him off, ran him over twice, dragged him, and then stopped on top of him—as he recalls. Bedridden for nearly year and facing what would eventually be 15 surgeries to provide him with a half-artificial right leg, he picked up music. “I was a super active kid, but after that accident, I couldn’t really do much” he sighs. “We had these instruments in the house, and I told my mom I wanted to learn how to play guitar.”

He practically became fused to the instrument and, at 14, joined his first band. A few years later, through a girl at the physical rehab facility he frequented, he landed in local punk favorites Bean Fight on the bass. That transformed into Hit By A Semi, who Ryan played with for over the course of a decade.

Ultimately, Ryan’s stories are meant to inspire on A Wick Burning High. “I’m a light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel sort of guy,” he leaves off. “My accident took a lot from me, but in return I was given an amazing gift - music. I wouldn’t trade anything for this journey. If I could convey that appreciation and love of life, that would be incredible.”

The prolific Ryan Davidson has refined the poetry of his songwriting, creating his own working class aesthetic where beauty and darkness often trade punches—emotional, Intelligent, minimalist, and unapologetic.

Romero Offer Free Download Of New Song “Gold For The Hunt”

Romero’s Jeffrey Mundt spent most of the 90’s behind the drum kit for a variety of bands including Bovine Records' THUG & punk legends, NAKED AGGRESSION. A long-time guitar player & songwriter, he often dabbled with fronting a band, but never pursued it seriously. Enter: a move to northern WI, a random Craigslist ad from bass player; Josh Stanchik, a casual writing and recording session (with Mundt handling vocals, guitar & drums!) & Romero was born! Rumors of the project peaked the interest of drummer & vocalist Ben Brooks, he volunteered and was quickly hired.

Romero was formed in late 2009 in northern WI and started playing live immediately. Very often.

October 2010 brought the band's first release, the 7" vinyl record "Solitaire". Released independently on Triceratrax Records, the single received rave reviews from all over the world. In February of 2011, the single was re-released online by GRINDCORE KARAOKE, a label headed by J. Randall from RELAPSE Records' Agoraphobic Nosebleed. To date, the single has been downloaded over 10,000 times and has been purchased, shared and traded by thousands more via online music blogs & retailers.

With many local and regional shows under their belts, ROMERO took the show nation-wide as they completed their first national tour in spring of 2011. They have recently shared the stage with the likes of The Sword, Jucifer, Weedeater, Clutch, Dead Meadow, Skeletonwitch, Black Label Society and other dyed-in-the-wool heavyweights.

2012 brought the addition of bass player Steve Stanczyk to replace original bass player, Josh Stanchik. Yeah, the name thing is weird, isn't it?

On 4/20/12, the single "Couch Lock" was released online via GRINDCORE KARAOKE as well as on a limited edition cassette. The packaging for this release features unique 3D artwork and includes 3D glasses.

The band released the full length "Take The Potion" LP on January 29, 2013. (available for FREE DOWNLOAD @ http://www.listentoromero.com/ or https://romero.bandcamp.com/album/take-the-potion) The 7 song / 42 minute CD is enclosed in a deluxe die-cut gatefold case and features artwork and packaging designed entirely by the band. ROMERO was also able to complete a successful KIckstarter campaign to fund the vinyl release. The vinyl version is pressed on 3 different colors of 150 gram deluxe vinyl.

ROMERO spreads like a weed.

HEAVY - LOUD - VERY, VERY HIGH.

Romero have recently released their new single “Gold For The Hunt“. The song is available now for FREE DOWNLOAD in multiple formats. Check out here http://romero.bandcamp.com/track/gold-for-the-hunt.

The California Roots Union Presents The Freightshakers & Gerry Gomez and The Damngivers - March 21st

IT IS OUTLAW COUNTRY NIGHT!!

The Freightshakers (Ameripolitan Music Awards Outlaw Group of the Year) & Gerry Gomez and The Damngivers

Saturday, March 21 at T. Boyles Tavern in Pasadena, CA. It's going to be a great night of roots and country music.

The Freightshakers

Modern day honkytonk heroes, Gethen Jenkins and The Freightshakers, deliver high octane classic country music with an outlaw stance. With David Gilliard on upright bass, Gary Brandin on pedal steel, Dale Daniel on drums and Jeremy Long on everything else, you’re already havin a good night, add the unparalleled baritone of lead singer Gethen Jenkins and they will have to kick you out at closin time! These boys take the myth making and truth telling that is outlaw country music to a higher level in a good ole honkytonk kinda way.

Gerry Gomez and The Damngivers

Damngivers is aptly named. They're a band of people who give a damn. Their songs groove with strong choruses, good hooks, and lyrics that are like folk rock meat and potatoes. Akin to Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and singer-songwriters of previous generations that questioned the status quo, lead singer-songwriter Gerry Gomez writes songs that entertain, observe, probe, and above all, rock.

At first listen, you'll hear a quilt of American music – parts Country Rock, Alt-Country, Roots Rock and Folk with a nod to early Wilco, the Band, Black Crowes, the Faces and the Blasters. L.A. born and residing, Gomez molds his influences into songs that are full of hope and irony, and driven home with his rootsy vocals. Supported with pedal steel guitar and Hammond B3 organs, top caliber musicians and producers, Damngivers songs are full of rock-n-soul.

T. Boyle’s Tavern is located at 37 N. Catalina Avenue in Pasadena.

It is behind the Academy 6 Cinemas, and just to the east of the Ice House Comedy Club.  There is no entrance or signage on Catalina Ave.

There is a parking structure located on the west side of Mentor Avenue, in between Union Street and Colorado Boulevard. Mentor is a one way southbound street, so you must enter Mentor Avenue from the north to enter the structure.

Additionally, there is free street parking after 6:00pm; as well as another pay lot with limited space just north of the venue, across Rhodes Alley.

Crate Digger: An Obsession With Punk Records By Bob Suren

Crate Digger: An Obsession With Punk Records by Bob Suren

Available on June 9th - Trade Paperback, 192 Pages - $14.95

An insider's account of the last 30 years of punk rock and vinyl records, including new information on many punk luminaries.

Bob Suren spent more than 30 years immersed in punk rock. His obsession with punk music, culture, and especially record collecting began with a loaned mix tape in a small town in Florida when he was a teenager and slowly took over all aspects of his life.

He started a record label and distribution company, opened a record store, managed a thriving bootleg merchandise empire, published a magazine, promoted shows, and traveled the world with his own band. He mentored generations of younger punks and built a movement that put Florida on the map. He stayed a step ahead of all the ups and downs of the music industry, always pioneering.

Join Bob as he hangs out with punk luminaries like Jello Biafra, The Meatmen, Raw Power, Black Flag, The Dead Boys, Millions of Dead Cops, Rattus, and more. He relates his (mis)adventures breaking his curfew to see the Dead Boys' last show, almost getting arrested after seeing the Ramones, touring with his bands in Egypt, Ecuador, Brazil, and more.

As Jeff Nelson of Minor Threat said, "Really brings to life the early days of the American punk scene as it spread slowly across the country, through turntables, fanzines, and word of mouth. His vivid vinyl recollections illustrate how good record stores and adventurous college radio stations were so essential in bringing startling new music into the lives of many previously isolated kids. It follows the trajectory of a kid-turned-concert-promoter as his passion for music became all-consuming."

Then one day it all fell apart. He'd built up his life like a record collection, but it didn't satisfy him anymore. He sold everything, dropped out, moved far from home to start fresh... and wrote this book.

Crate Digger is written in short spurts tied to actual records. The result is real, heartfelt, and deeply informed by the music of the last thirty years. It's a basic piece of your punk history collection.

"Bob Suren delivers some great punk rawk history through anecdote and wit, intermingled with personal stories of love, loss, the characters that have come and gone and that elusive hunk of vinyl that's just around the next corner.... All spanning 30 years of Bob's life."
- Ami Lawless, Voetsek

"A passionate and cautionary tale of the ecstasy and dark side of a serious vinyl addiction in the golden age of preinternet wax hoarding . A must read for anyone who collects anything!"
- Tesco Vee, the Meatmen.

"More than just your typical "record guide," Crate Digger allows us to accompany Bob on his passionate 30+ year punk rock journey. The anecdotal approach reminds us that, for the passionate music fan, there's a personal connection to a particular record that often conjures up various memories, both good and bad."
- Al Quint, Suburban Voice magazine and Sonic Overload Radio.
